I once told Jess, "I'm a social worker. We use resources and connections to mobilize the communities around us in collective efforts towards the greater good."
Looks like a little bit of that orientation has rubbed off on my lady!
First of all, she's started to comfortably use "process" as a verb on a frequent basis, making my therapist heart go pitter-pat. She even said "empathic failure" earlier this week, but I was in a huff at the time and didn't want to Time Out to giggle... but I noticed, honey! I noticed!
Lastly, most importantly, and most social-worker-y, in a momentous decision this past week, she decided to self-publish her memoir, Open-Eyed Sneeze. But she is not doing this alone! No, no. From a strengths-based stance, she's recognizing the potential of her immensely talented friends and family and making use of it in a mutually-beneficial way! And I can assure you, it's for the greater good. Homegirl's wicked funny, wicked smaahht, with a lot to say in a relevant way to the new class of graduates this Spring - and, let's face it, anyone who's ever experienced that "Okay, what now?" feeling ever in your life.
If you haven't already shared her hysterical blog with everyone you know, now's the time* - the book is on the move, y'all, and I promise, you want to get on this train.
*Go to her blog, click "follow" on the right-hand side of the page (you might have to scroll down a bit), and then tell everyone you know. Seriously. Everyone.
